Safe Mode on Android: How to Enter and What It's For

Use Safe Mode to find out whether a third-party app is causing crashes, restarts or battery drain.

Ad

Safe Mode boots Android with only the original system apps, temporarily disabling everything you installed. If a problem disappears in Safe Mode, a downloaded app is the culprit.

  1. 1Press and hold the Power button until the power menu appears.
  2. 2Touch and hold 'Power off' until 'Reboot to safe mode' pops up, then confirm.
  3. 3The phone restarts showing 'Safe mode' in a corner of the screen.
  4. 4Test the problem (crashes, restarts, ads, battery drain).
  5. 5If it's gone, uninstall recently added apps one by one, restarting normally between removals.

Tip: To exit Safe Mode, simply restart the phone normally.
