Sound problems are some of the most common phone faults, and also some of the easiest to test. This category covers the speaker, the earpiece, the microphone and your hearing: play separate left and right channels to find a blown or silent speaker, run a low-frequency tone to push water and dust out of the speaker grille, watch a live waveform to confirm the microphone is picking up sound, and sweep tones to check the range you can still hear.
Before you start, turn the media volume up and take off any headphones so the sound comes from the phone itself. Muffled or crackly audio after water exposure often clears with the speaker-cleaning tone, while a microphone that shows no waveform may be blocked by a case or by dirt in the mic hole. All audio is processed in your browser and is never recorded or uploaded.
