How to Block Spam Texts on Android

Turn on spam protection, block and report senders, and stop SMS phishing.

Google Messages has real spam filtering, most people just never turned it on. Combined with block & report, it cuts spam texts dramatically within days.

  1. 1Google Messages → profile → Messages settings → Spam protection → ON.
  2. 2For each spam text: long-press the conversation → Block → check 'Report spam' → OK.
  3. 3Alphanumeric senders (e.g. 'PROMO-X') block the same way.
  4. 4Check the Spam & blocked folder occasionally (menu → Spam & blocked) for false positives.
  5. 5Never tap links in unexpected texts about deliveries, prizes or bank alerts, that's phishing, report it.

Tip: Persistent carrier-related spam? Text 'STOP' works only for legitimate senders; for the rest, blocking + reporting trains the filter.
