Google Messages has real spam filtering, most people just never turned it on. Combined with block & report, it cuts spam texts dramatically within days.
- 1Google Messages → profile → Messages settings → Spam protection → ON.
- 2For each spam text: long-press the conversation → Block → check 'Report spam' → OK.
- 3Alphanumeric senders (e.g. 'PROMO-X') block the same way.
- 4Check the Spam & blocked folder occasionally (menu → Spam & blocked) for false positives.
- 5Never tap links in unexpected texts about deliveries, prizes or bank alerts, that's phishing, report it.
Tip: Persistent carrier-related spam? Text 'STOP' works only for legitimate senders; for the rest, blocking + reporting trains the filter.
