A Moto (Moto G, Moto Edge, or Razr) that won't power on is usually a drained battery, a frozen bootloader hand-off, or a stuck volume button rather than dead hardware. Motorola's near-stock Android skin means the fix path is close to a Pixel's, work through it in order before assuming a repair is needed.
- 1Plug into the original or a known-good charger and wait 15 minutes. A fully drained Moto can take a few minutes before the LED or Motorola logo appears, don't judge it dead in the first 60 seconds.
- 2Force restart: hold the Power button alone for 20-30 seconds on most Moto G and Edge models. If nothing happens, hold Power + Volume Down for 10-15 seconds instead, Motorola has used both combos across generations.
- 3Check for a stuck Volume Down button or a tight case pressing it, this silently forces the phone into fastboot/bootloader mode every time it tries to boot, which looks identical to 'won't turn on'.
- 4Look closely at the screen in a dark room: some Moto units power on with a corrupted display driver, the screen stays black but the notification LED or a faint backlight glow is visible.
- 5Try a different USB-C cable and wall adapter, Motorola's TurboPower chargers negotiate voltage in a way generic cables sometimes fail to trigger, so the phone silently doesn't charge at all.
- 6If you see the Motorola logo then a black screen, boot into Recovery Mode (Power off, then hold Power + Volume Down until the logo, then release Power and keep Volume Down) and try 'Wipe cache partition' first.
Tip: If the phone shows zero response, no LED, no vibration, no warmth near the charging port, after 30 minutes on a wall charger, the battery connector or charging IC likely failed and it needs a repair shop, this is not a software fix.
