Realme UI adds visual flair and background services on top of Android that can accumulate clutter over time, lag is most often full storage or too many background apps rather than the hardware being underpowered.
- 1Check storage: Settings → Storage, if you're above 90% full, Android (and Realme UI especially) slows down noticeably, free up at least 10-15% with our Storage Converter to plan what to clear.
- 2Clear cached data system-wide: Settings → Storage → Cached data → Clear, this is safe and doesn't delete your files or app data.
- 3Reduce or disable Realme UI's animation scale: Settings → Additional Settings → Developer options → Window/Transition/Animator animation scale, set to 0.5x, makes the phone feel snappier even without more raw speed.
- 4Review Settings → Battery → App battery management for apps running unrestricted in the background that you don't actually need live, restrict the ones you don't.
- 5Disable Game Space's background app freezing side effects if games feel fine but everything else lags after closing one, some Realme models don't fully release resources afterward until a restart.
- 6As a bigger step, back up and factory reset if the phone has years of accumulated app cruft and none of the above helps, Realme UI installs get genuinely faster on a clean setup.
Tip: If lag is specifically tied to the camera or a specific heavy app, check Settings → Apps → [app] → Storage → Clear cache for that app first, a bloated app cache is a common single-app slowdown cause.
