One UI is a heavier skin than stock Android, so a Galaxy that's slowing down is usually storage pressure or a bloated cache, not a phone that's simply 'too old'. Samsung gives you more direct tools to fix this than most brands, if you know where they are.
- 1Check Settings → Battery and device care → Storage, if you're under 10% free space, One UI visibly slows down, delete large files or move photos to the cloud first.
- 2Run Settings → Battery and device care → 'Optimize now', Samsung's built-in one-tap cleaner clears app cache and closes memory-hogging background apps in one pass.
- 3Wipe the system cache partition via Recovery Mode (power off, hold Volume Up + Power, then Wipe cache partition), this clears months of accumulated system cache that 'Optimize now' doesn't fully touch.
- 4Reduce animations: Settings → About phone → tap Software information → tap Build number 7 times to enable Developer options, then Settings → Developer options → set Window/Transition/Animator scale all to 0.5x.
- 5Check for stuck Good Lock modules if installed, Samsung's own customization app is a known cause of system-wide lag when a module (like Home Up or Task Changer) goes out of date after a One UI update.
- 6Review Settings → Apps → filter by 'All apps' → look for apps using disproportionate battery or storage in the background, uninstall or disable ones you don't recognize.
- 7As a deeper fix, back up and do a factory reset via Settings → General management → Reset, years of app residue in One UI's database layer is a common unfixable-any-other-way cause of lag.
