Touchscreen Not Working on Android? Diagnosis and Fixes

Unresponsive or erratic touch, software resets, protector checks and dead-zone testing.

Ad

Touch problems split into total unresponsiveness (usually software or digitizer) and partial dead zones (usually hardware). A five-minute diagnosis tells you which repair path you're on.

  1. 1Force restart: Power + Volume Down 20 seconds, clears most total freezes.
  2. 2Remove the screen protector and clean the screen; cheap protectors cause erratic touch.
  3. 3Unplug the charger while testing, poor chargers inject touch noise.
  4. 4Map the touch surface with our Touchscreen Test: dead squares reveal exact dead zones.
  5. 5Run the Ghost Touch Detector to catch phantom touches.
  6. 6Dead zones or ghosts confirmed = digitizer/screen replacement; erratic-everywhere after a drop = same.

Tip: Touch working in Safe Mode but not normal mode? An app (often a screen filter/blue-light app) is intercepting touches.
