How to Transfer Contacts from Android to Android

Three ways to move contacts to a new Android: Google account, VCF file or phone-maker transfer apps.

Switching phones? Contacts are the easiest thing to move, if they live in your Google account they arrive by simply signing in. Here are all the routes.

  1. 1Easiest: sign into the same Google account on the new phone, synced contacts appear automatically.
  2. 2Check the old phone first: Contacts → Fix & manage → import any phone/SIM contacts into Google.
  3. 3Offline route: export a .vcf on the old phone, send it (Bluetooth, email), open it on the new one to import.
  4. 4Full-transfer apps: Samsung Smart Switch, Google's setup cable transfer, or the maker's migration app move contacts plus everything else.

Tip: After transferring, spot-check the count at contacts.google.com against the old phone.
