Budget Redmi phones ship with less RAM headroom than flagships, and MIUI's bundled apps, ad services and heavy animations eat into that headroom fast. The fix leans on removing what Xiaomi added, not just what you installed yourself.
- 1Open Security app → Cleaner and run a full clean, MIUI's built-in cleaner is more thorough than most third-party ones at clearing cached junk and residual files from uninstalled apps.
- 2Check Settings → Apps → Manage apps, uninstall or disable MIUI bloatware you don't use (Mi Browser, GetApps, Mi Video, Mi Community), each one is a small background drag on lower-RAM Redmi models.
- 3Settings → Notifications → check the Security app's ad-recommendation toggles if present on older MIUI versions, disabling ad services reduces background network and CPU activity.
- 4Reduce MIUI's animations: enable Developer options (Settings → About phone → tap MIUI version 7 times), then Developer options → set Window/Transition/Animator animation scale to 0.5x or off.
- 5Check storage: Settings → Storage, budget Redmi models often ship with 64-128GB, and MIUI itself visibly slows below roughly 10% free space, delete large files or offload photos to free it up.
- 6Turn off live wallpapers and Super Wallpapers (the animated ones like Phoenix or Ocean) if set, these are genuinely GPU and battery heavy on entry-level Redmi hardware and add to the sluggish feel.
- 7As a deeper fix, back up and factory reset via Settings → About phone → Backup & reset → Erase all data, accumulated MIUI system database bloat over 1-2 years is a common lag cause no cleaner fully reaches.
Tip: Use our Storage Converter to see exactly what's taking space beyond what Settings shows at a glance, System data hidden under 'Other' is frequently the real culprit on Xiaomi phones, not photos or apps.
