Phone Vibration Not Working? Test and Fix Android Haptics

No vibration on calls, typing or notifications? Test the vibration motor in the browser and work through every fix, from settings to a stuck motor.

When your phone stops vibrating, the cause is usually a setting or a stuck motor, not a dead part. Start by testing the motor directly: our Vibration Test triggers the motor from the browser, so if it buzzes there, the hardware is fine and the problem is in your settings.

  1. 1Test the motor first: open our Vibration Test and tap to fire the motor. A buzz means the hardware works and the fix is in settings.
  2. 2Check the ring mode: a phone set to silent (not vibrate) skips vibration. Set it to 'Vibrate' or enable 'Vibrate for calls'.
  3. 3Turn on system haptics: Settings, Sound and vibration, and enable Vibration and touch feedback (keyboard, touch, ring).
  4. 4Disable battery saver: aggressive power saving switches off haptic feedback on many phones. Turn it off and retest.
  5. 5Check per-app settings: messaging and call apps have their own vibration toggles. Enable them where you expect a buzz.
  6. 6Restart the phone: a stuck audio/haptics service is a common cause of sudden silence, and a reboot clears it.
  7. 7Free up the motor: if the test buzzes weakly or rattles, a case pressing the motor or debris can dampen it. Remove the case and retest.
  8. 8Rule out hardware: if the Vibration Test produces nothing after a restart and with battery saver off, the motor or its connector may have failed (common after a drop or water), which is a cheap repair.

Tip: Overly strong or constant buzzing is usually the opposite problem: a notification or app looping. Check which app buzzes with notification history, then mute its vibration. Our Vibration Test lets you compare intensity before and after any change.
