Xiaomi/Redmi No Sound or Speaker Not Working

No audio from calls or media on your Redmi? Check MIUI's separate sound profiles and clogged speaker grille.

MIUI's sound settings are split across more menus than stock Android, a Sound & vibration screen, a separate Do Not Disturb schedule, and per-app notification channels, so silence on a Redmi is often one of those layers muting things rather than a hardware fault.

  1. 1Press the volume rocker and tap the small settings icon that appears to expand Media, Ring and Alarm volumes separately, confirm none are at zero.
  2. 2Settings → Sound & vibration → confirm the phone isn't in Silent or Do Not Disturb mode, MIUI's DND scheduling can re-trigger silently at the same time daily if you set one up and forgot.
  3. 3Run our Decibel Meter or Speaker Stereo Test while playing audio to check whether sound is present but faint versus fully silent, this separates a settings issue from hardware.
  4. 4Physically check the bottom speaker grille next to the USB-C port, budget Redmi phones are especially prone to lint clogging since the grille holes are small and low to the ground in a pocket.
  5. 5Try our Speaker Cleaner tool to run a tone pattern that helps shake trapped dust or moisture free from the grille.
  6. 6Check Settings → Additional settings → Accessibility → confirm 'Mono audio' isn't enabled, which can make stereo speaker phones sound like only one channel is working.
  7. 7Rule out a stuck Bluetooth connection, MIUI reconnects to previously paired devices aggressively in the background, check Settings → Bluetooth for anything auto-connected and routing sound away silently.

Tip: If sound is muffled specifically during calls, check Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Phone/Dialer → Storage → Clear cache, a corrupted call-audio cache is a known MIUI-specific cause of muffled or silent call audio that doesn't affect media playback.
