About this test
TV and AC remotes emit infrared light, invisible to the human eye, but the phone camera can capture it. Press a button with the remote aimed at the camera and a white/purple light blinks on screen.
It's the easiest way to know whether the problem is the remote (dead LED or batteries) or the device it controls. Front cameras usually show IR better than rear ones.

I see no light at all, is the remote dead?
First replace the batteries and try again up close. If it still never blinks on any camera, the remote's IR LED has likely failed.
