About this test
A pure sine tone is the cleanest way to test audio hardware and hearing. Sweeping frequencies reveals a speaker that buzzes or drops the highs, and comparing left and right channels with headphones checks balance.
For hearing, most young adults perceive up to 17 to 18 kHz, and the upper limit falls gradually with age (a normal effect called presbycusis). If a friend hears a tone you cannot, that is expected, not a fault.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I hear the highest tones?
Hearing of very high frequencies naturally declines with age, and small phone speakers also struggle to reproduce them. Try good headphones for a clearer test.

Sustained high volume can. Always start quiet and raise gradually; stop if a tone sounds harsh or the speaker distorts.
